Flange gaskets
A spiral wound gasket is a semi-metallic gasket. It consists of a spirally wound v-shaped metallic with a non-metallic filler material. There are three elements that constitute a spiral wound gasket. They are:
Outer ring:
Also known as a guide ring or centering ring, the outer ring of a spiral wound gasket is usually made of carbon steel material.
The main purpose of this element is to center the gasket while inserting it into a bolted flange joint.
Inner ring:
The inner ring is one of the most important parts of a spiral wound gasket as it prevents windings from buckling inside the pipe. In the situations of buckling of a gasket, parts of it get sucked into the pipe and eventually flow through the piping system to get caught/wrapped on something. Inner rings prevent this phenomenon and help in avoiding the problem.

 

Sealing element:
This is the element of the spiral wound gasket that creates a tight seal to prevent leaks. The sealing element encompasses both windings and filler material. In general, spiral wound gaskets use a flexible graphite filler material rated for high temperatures. Graphite as filler material also helps the gasket avoid flange distortion and joint misalignment. Another common filler material is PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene). However, PTFE is not suitable for use in high-temperature applications.

Flange gaskets are divided into rubber gaskets, graphite gaskets, and metal spiral gaskets (basic type). They use standard and
high-quality SS304, SS316 (“VorWshape) metal belts and other alloy materials with graphite and PTFE. Other flexible
materials are overlapped and spirally wound, and the metal band is fixed by spot welding at the beginning and the end. Its
function is to play a sealing role in the middle of the two flanges.
Performance
Performance: high temperature, high pressure, corrosion resistance, good compression rate and rebound rate. Application: Sealing
parts of pipes, valves, pumps, manholes, pressure vessels and heat exchange equipment at the joints of petroleum, chemical,electric power, metallurgy, shipbuilding, papermaking, medicine, etc. are ideal static sealing materials.

1. Metal band

3. Unless otherwise agreed, the material of the inner ring shall be the same as that of the metal strip. The material of the outerring shall be A3 steel and shall be antirust.

Special material winding gasket
Using 321, dual-phase steel, Monel, indium nickel, Harrington alloy, special stainless steel or alloy materials, such as titanium, are used as winding gaskets, which are made of winding steel belt, inner and outer rings, high purity nuclear grade graphite, expanded tetrafluoro, non-asbestos and other non-metallic materials, flange sealing under special working conditions such as strong radiation.

Points to note

1. The winding part of the gasket must be between the flange sealing surface, and the width of the winding part can not be widened at will.

2. It is better not to use the basic gasket on the concave-convex flange, because the basic gasket in the flange axial
compression force, gasket inner ring solder joints easy to open, resulting in gasket failure.
3. Under the bad working conditions such as high temperature, cold or frequent alternation of cold and heat, large vibration and strong corrosion medium, the gaskets for flat flanges and convex flanges should be fitted with inner rings of reasonable materials.
4. Never replace high-quality gaskets with low-quality ones. Avoid material corrosion or other causes of gasket failure..

The space between the upper and lower sealing surfaces of the gasket and the upper and lower surfaces of the reinforcing ring should be equal The outer reinforcing ring and the gasket main body should maintain the localization and may loosen appropriately.
